Anthony Buckley (1912-1993) opened his first portrait studio in 1937 quickly gaining a reputation for his portraits of leading actresses of the day. He worked from various studios including St Alban's Street after serving in World War II, on New Bond Street, when he purchased the premises and business of Janet Jevons and in the early 1950s he worked in Dorothy Wilding's London studio. As his reputation as a leading stage portraitist grew he moved to Grosvenor Street in the 1960s, an address that better reflected his enhanced status as a royal photographer. His address on the reverse of this portrait is Berkeley Cottage, Bourdon Street, Mayfair, London, W.1.

The portrait, on doubleweight paper, is in fine condition with Buckley’s stamp on the reverse.
