Original 1878 4 1/2 inch x 8 1/2 inch engraving titled SHAKSPEARE (WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE)

William Shakespeare is an outdoor bronze sculpture by John Quincy Adams Ward, located in Central Park in Manhattan, New York. The statue was created in 1870 and unveiled in Central Park in 1872. Four thousand dollars towards the funding of the statue was raised at a benefit performance of Julius Caesar performed by the sons of Junius Brutus Booth (Junius Brutus Booth, Jr., Edwin Booth, and John Wilkes Booth) at the Winter Garden Theatre.
Full length, standing, holding book to chest with left hand, his right hand on hip; wearing breeches, doublet, and cloak; bald on top with hair curled over ears, a moustache, and goatee (the head derived from the monument at Stratford); on a pedestal; turned to the left.
