EDWARDIAN TENNIS LADY.

In 1902, English woman, Muriel Rob, won the Ladies Tennis Final at Wimbledon. However, at that time, ladies still had to dress ‘with decency’.

For Muriel and the other lady tennis players of that time, there were no comfortable sports clothing like the trainers, sleeveless tops and short skirts that we see today.

Lady tennis players were forced to wear full length skirts and long sleeved blouses done right up to the neck with a tie, along with bloomers, woollen stockings, petticoats and ankle boots and their hair had to be pinned into a neat bun under a straw boater.

Just imagine how hot and restrictive that must have been!

In honour of those pioneering female tennis players from the very early days of women’s tennis at Wimbledon, I have created this meticulously hand-crafted Edwardian Tennis Lady wearing an outfit based on the one that Murial Rob wore in 1902. To complete the outfit, this doll comes with her painted metal tennis racket and ball.

This doll is approx five and a half inches tall. Underneath her crisp white blouse and full length skirt, she has black painted ankle boots and black fabric stockings, along with knee length white cotton bloomers and long white lace-trimmed petticoat.

Her golden blonde hair is dressed in a neat bun and topped with a hand-crafted straw boatertrimmed with a dark green band to match her tie and belt.

This doll has a porcelain head, torso, lower arms, and lower legs with a wired, soft and partially pose-able body. This doll is an ornament intended for adult collectors and should not be given to children to play with.
