For sale we offer a Very Old Antique Naive Green & White Chess Board "Folk Art " Possibly Irish or Celtic who knows ?
The chess board "itself" is 14 inches square (excluding the external areas . Each chess square is 1.80 inches square, (4.57 cm square) . It is constructed of four pieces of wood joined together, One of the green squares contains a genuine wood knot ! which on first viewing appears possibly to be a drawing pin the not being of that size. Viewing the back confirms it is a wood knot. At least two other wood knots are visible at the back only. There is a small piece of wood missing to the thin of the top side of the board - on the same edge that the leather hanger is attached. I am not an expert on defining wood species.
You can see that there is a knotted piece of leather shoelace ? attached for it to have been hung up over the years ? One of the
