OCTAVIUS OFTEN SOLD HIS PAINTINGS IN PAIRS. BOTH PAINTINGS HAVE THE SAME DIMENSIONS. QUITE OFTEN THE ACTUAL LOCATIONS ARE VERY CLOSE as in this case. (The painting offered elsewhere is stated as being near Godalming)

For sale here we have :-
Octavius Thomas Clark Rural River Landscape verso "near Richmond" meaning Richmond upon Thames (British 1850-1921) it needs cleaning and Restoration and of course a frame.
~~~~~~~
Octavius Thomas Clark' (1850-1921) A SUPERB ANTIQUE RIVER LANDSCAPE OIL PAINTING
~~~~~~~~~
The attention to detail throughout the painting is truly magnificent and the painting appears to show something different each time it is viewed.
~~~~~~~~~~~~
This highly interesting painting which would benefit from further local research. Contact with members of the local Richmond Local History Society would naturally be a good starting point.
~~~~~~~~~~~
Moreover now we have established that Clark painted near Richmond upon Thames the local "Surrey Sleuth" can try and positively identify other currently unknown river scenes in other collections . In my research of this (and the second currently "distressed" Octavius T Clark work near Godalming) I have notice some likely "Richmondian" suspects.
~~~~~~~~~~
Naturally the painting would benefit from being professionally re-lined, re-cleaned etc.
~~~~~~~~
Octavius T. Clark was a British painter who was born in 1850.
Octavius T. Clark's work has been offered at auction multiple times,
~~~~~~~~~
Here Clark again has refrained from adding people buildings and livestock including swans (he has added a pair of Swans on a second painting around Godalming -which needs obvious restoration and is also offered for sale on this site) . He concentrates of his love of painting trees for which he excels.
