Seller's Description
[Title]: Wo ist Hitler?
[PWB/AFQH 1944]. Original aerial propaganda leaflet. 2 pages. 121 x 195 mm. Text in German.
Code T/29. - Jungmayr 29. - Klaus Mann, Diary Entries (November 12th ,13th and 15th, 1944). - Kroll 6, p. 116.
This is a fascinating leaflet authored by Klaus Mann, the son of renowned Nobel prize-winning German author Thomas Mann. Klaus Mann, a noted writer in his own right, served in the 5th U.S. Army during the Italian Campaign as part of the Psychological Warfare Branch. His duties included interrogating captured PoWs, delivering loudspeaker broadcasts, and crafting propaganda leaflets.
According to his diary, Mann began writing this leaflet on November 12, 1944 while stationed in the village of Traversa. It is directed at German soldiers, known as Landsers, with the aim of instilling doubt: Why should they die for Hitler when their supreme commander seems to abandon them in this fateful hour?
Scorching, crinkling and discolouration (typical for a leaflet disseminated by artillery shell), in parts difficult to read because of the heavy crinkling.
