Seller's Description
Hi there Welcome to this listing,
Here I have for sale one very rare and hard to find nice 1870's vintage Frederick Sage and Co 4 lever warded Mortice dead Lock and 1 working key (which is not the original) but still works the lock perfectly with a very nice silky smooth action. The key is marked with the number "53" followed by "Gibbons Wolverhampton"
There is a brass keeper plate and 4 brass wood screws included with this lock.
This lock is suitable for both left and right hand doors as there is no latch bolt on this lock to worry about.
Please note and observe that the lock dead bolt tongue is slightly off center when looking at the front brass lock face, Hence the brass keeper plate rectangle hole is made the same in order to correspond with the lock dead bolt tongue, so please make sure that when, or if you intend to fit this lock that the keeper plate rectangle hole corresponds with the lock dead bolt, ie the thinner side of the keeper plate should be corresponding with the thinner side of the mortice lock faceplate once fitted.
This lock is from my personal vintage lock collection,It has 4 levers (plus some internal warding) and is quite secure as Frederick Sage and Co were shop fitters from 1860 to 1929 and made some very good secure locks designed for shop front doors mainly.
This lock is marked "VR" (without the crown logo), followed by "F. Sage & Co Ltd London" and has the "telescope reg'd mark logo", It dates from the early 1870's era (It is dated "1873") and is an early 4 spring lever mortice dead lock that has been beautifully made to work very well.
It is in perfect working order with its gleaming brass work which looks great despite its age and many years of use.
Please bare this in mind that this is a very old lock from the 1870's era and it has some age related marks and shows signs of many years use.
Please see all photos and study them carefully before you decide to buy this fabulous vintage lock, as I always do my very best to give an 100% honest description.
Again, This lock in good condition for its vintage age but being an USED, old original lock it does have some marks and show some obvious signs of use and wear which only adds to its original character ! so please bare this in mind before you decide to buy this great ultra rare antique lock and study all the photographs very carefully as they show the actual lock that you will receive and also some relevant measurements that may be needed.
Measurements for this lock are below;-
Size of lock face: 133.5 mm high by 25.5 mm wide by approx 6 mm in depth.
Size of lock body or lock case is: 59 mm long by 84 mm high by 15 mm thick. (the lock case length is excluding the 6 mm thickness of the front steel lock plate and the shiny brass face plate).
Total depth of this lock is: 65 mm. (this is including the 6 mm thickness of the front steel lock plate and the shiny brass face plate).
The measurement from the front face of this lock to the center of the key hole is 34.5 mm.
The measurements of the keeper plate are 97.5 mm high by 25.5 mm wide.
The thickness of the brass keeper plate is 3.5 mm.
The total length of the key is approx 104 mm (just over 4 inches long)
PLEASE STUDY ALL 13 PHOTOS as they form a very big part of the DESCRIPTION in this listing and they show any imperfections that this lock may have as well as they show some of the most relevant measurements that are needed.
I have described this item to the best of my knowledge and this lock is in perfect working order and in fantastic used condition.
