Seller's Description
Hi there and welcome to this listing... (Please scroll down to read the full listing and study all 16 photos carefully)
IMPORTANT - THIS LOCK HAS NO INTERNAL WARDING - PLEASE ONLY BUY THIS LOCK IF YOU ARE OK WITH THIS.
Here I have for sale one fabulous hard to find rare vintage Georgian period brass and steel 1 lever LEFT HANDED cabinet/cupboard lock.
This lock is complete with 1 working NON ORIGINAL key which works the lock well with a silky smooth snap action (This really is a 'proper' Old Skool lock !)
VERY IMPORTANT - Sadly someone has removed the internal warding at some stage during this lock's lifetime so IT HAS NO INTERNAL WARDING but with the large key and long keyhole pin plus the 1 lever it is still fairly secure and still works PERFECTLY !
THIS LOCK DOES NOT HAVE INTERNAL WARDING FOR ADDED SECURITY - (It has Just a single lever and that's it).
"Warding" means that a lock has some extra metal (brass) protruding inside of the lock from the lock case, this is of a certain profile and in order for the key to fit inside the lock or turn, it must have the same sort of corresponding profile cut out at the bottom of the key flag, if the key does not have the same corresponding profile cut out at the bottom of the key flag, then it simply will not fit inside the lock or turn.
Please note; This is a single handed, LEFT HANDED LOCK so can only be used on LEFT HANDED cabinet/cupboard doors where the key hole is on the LEFT HAND side when the cabinet/cupboard door is fully shut and when looking at the door from the outside whilst it is fully shut. Please study the last image (Image number 22) for more information.
This lock is from my own personal vintage lock collection, It has no makers name present and it dates from the 1820's to 1830's (pre Victorian) Georgian era.
The lock is in great, well used condition and it looks absolutely fantastic for its antique age !
This lock was probably hand made way back in the 1820's to 1830's and does have some minor age related marks from many years of use. Other than this it is all good.
This great lock is now a collector's item due to its age and rarity. It is a very well made brass and steel 1 lever cabinet lock which has stood the test of time very well !
This lock is an very early QUALITY straight cupboard lock and has ONLY 1 lever and NO internal warding.
Again, this lock does have some superficial marks but nothing too serious so please bare this in mind before you decide to buy this fabulous original Georgian cabinet lock and its great Georgian period SKELETON key.
Please see all 16 pictures and study them carefully as they show the actual lock you are buying and the over all condition that it is in including any marks and imperfections it may have. The pictures also show some relevant measurements that may be needed.
The measurements of this lock are below:-
Height of lock back plate is 100.5 mm.
Width of lock back plate is 52.5 mm.
The distance between the left edge of this lock to the center of where the key hole pin is, is 23 mm.
Please study the last image (Image number 16 showing Left & Right Door illustrations) for more information.
The measurements of the lock case part that protrudes is 43.5 mm wide by 55 mm high (from it longest point) and by 12 mm it protrudes.
The total depth of this lock is approx 14 mm.
The total length of the key is 75 mm.
Please see all 16 pictures and study them very carefully as they form part of the description and show details and any imperfections this lock might have being a very old original lock that is now around 190 - 200 years old.
I have described this item to the best of my knowledge and this lock is in perfect working order and in fantastic used condition.
