Mousehole Bus 1977, Penzance Station, Large Photo
Description: This is a Large approx 11" inch x 8" inch photo of a quiet weekday scene at the old Penzance bus station in 1977. A Weymann bodied (ex-Halifax) Harveys of Mousehole 1963 Albion Nimbus NS3AN bus, registration plate RJX250, destination board 'Newlyn' 'Promenade' 'Town Centre' 'Penzance' sits in bay by the 5008/5009 service stand 'A' waiting to depart to Newlyn after taking on passengers.
The driver is checking his handbook and a passenger waits in the bus shelter by the sea wall.
It is the Silver Jubilee centenary year and a union jack plaque is neatly fastened to the front of the bus in celebration of this. A new access road now runs behind the see wall and the concrete fencing that separated the bus station from the railway station has long since been replaced, along with the neatly painted black & white kerbing, a regular sight around Penzance in the 1970's but not noticable in todays sparsley re-vamped version of the harbour bus station.
Harveys of Mousehole were a local bus operator who bought this little Nimbus from Halifax Corporation, ideally suited for the narrow streets and sharp turns on the route through Mousehole, and was in service on this popular route until the late 1980's.
