    That's because you allow the hobby to become a business. If somebody likes making cards, for example, and sells on their spares just to help pay for the materials, there's no reason why it can't work as a very pleasant hobby with no pressure. Just don't list more than you can comfortably support.

    You're probably right, Kim. I've always found that when money becomes involved one tends to take cost vs gain into account rather then just doing things for the fun of it. Instead of making things for the pleasure of it we begin to think in terms of what the potential buyer wants.

    Dennis, I consider myself a collector/hobbyist. I collect jewelry, depression glass, etc. and pick up many items in bulk at auctions, estate sales, etc. because that is the way some items are sold. I usually only want one or two pieces for myself, so I sell the other [left over] items. It helps me put some money back in my pocket so I can buy the next piece I want for my collection.
