Original 1771 6 1/2 inch x 11 inch copper plate engraving titled VIEW OF THAT PART OF THE PEAK OF DERBY, COMMONLY CALLED THE DEVIL’S A-SE; - AND ANOTHER PART, CALLED POOL’S HOLE.

The illustration on the left shows the entrance to the cavern commonly known as the Devil’s Arse, which name was retained (‘saving your reverence’) by William Camden in his ‘Britannia’ (1586) and by Daniel Defoe in ‘A Tour Thro’ the Whole Island of Great Britain’ (1724-26).
