Seller's Description
Original 10 3/4 inch x 8 1/4 inch Double-Sided Wood Engraved Cartoon page titled MR. PUNCH’S GUIDE TO CRUISING - ILLUSTRATED from Punch, May 14, 1934.
This cartoon and the cartoon on the reverse are by Harold Hailstone (1897 - 1982). A British cartoonist and illustrator, who served as an official war artist. His work was published in journals including the Illustrated London News, Punch, The Sketch, Strand Magazine, and Tatler.
Punch, or The London Charivari, was a British weekly magazine of humour and satire established in 1841 by Henry Mayhew and wood-engraver Ebenezer Landells. Historically, it was most influential in the 1840s and 1850s, when it helped to coin the term "cartoon" in its modern sense as a humorous illustration.
The page is in good to very good condition with a tear at the lower right corner.
