Original 1811 8 5/8 inch x 5 inch Etching and engraving titled HORNSEY, MIDDLESEX
View of Hornsey, in north London; a farmer herding sheep in field in foreground, the church visible on hill beyond valley; illustration to the 'Beauties of England and Wales'. 1811.
Print made by John Greig. Draughtsman, engraver, lithographer. Portraits, landscapes, urban views, architectural views.
After a drawing by Luke Clennell (1781 - 1840). He was apprenticed to the Newcastle upon Tyne wood engraver Thomas Bewick in 1797. Between 1799 and 1803 he acted as Bewick's principal assistant on the second volume of his A History of British Birds. He gained a reputation as a wood-engraver, and in May 1806 he was awarded the gold palette of the Society of Arts for a wood-engraving of a battle scene.
