Original 1893 3 3/4 inch x 6 inch Engraving titled GUY MANNERING - “HIGH JINKS”.
Guy Mannering; or, The Astrologer is the second of the Waverley novels by Walter Scott. In Chapter 15 Guy goes to Edinburgh to attend the reading of the will and finds the lawyer Paulus Pleydell indulging in High Jinks.
From a painting by Gordon Browne (1858 - 1932). An English artist and a prolific illustrator of children's books in the late 19th century and early 20th century. He was a meticulous craftsman and went to a great deal of effort to ensure that his illustrations were accurate. He illustrated six or seven books a year in addition to a huge volume of magazine illustration.
