Columbia 78 #37167 - Marek Weber Orch. - "Salut D'Amour" & "L'Amour, Toujours.."

1925 was the year Columbia switched from the old method of acoustically recorded pressings to the new electric recording process licensed from Western Electric. This company has a long history, dating back to 1888, and was one of the "Big Three" in recording companies, competing with Edison and Victor. They remain the oldest continually used brand name in recorded sound, now owned by Sony Music since 1988. 

This record features Marek Weber and His Orchestra. Weber was a German violinist and bandleader. His musical tastes were conservative, and during the early years his orchestra was known for playing Viennese waltzes, two-steps, and other subdued styles. He detested jazz and its anarchic tendencies. However, as a bandleader he had no choice but to incorporate modern styles into his program, and occasionally yield the floor to jazz solos and improvisational riffs, albeit under protest. Whenever his band launched into a jazz interlude, he would pointedly depart the conductor's podium and get a drink at the bar.

In excellent condition! Seldom do we see a record in such splendid shape. We would have graded at near-mint but for one light scratch on the A side. Lots of gloss, a clear audio, and clean as a whistle.

Side C118-5 presents, "L'Amour, Toujours, L'Amour" (Love Everlasting), and side C118-6 offers, "Salut S'Amour" (Love's Greeting). Wonderful big band tempos!
