Chinese Skirt, Folkwear Pattern 115. Folkwear, San Rafael, CA, 1982. Misses Size: Petite 6, Small 8, Medium 10 - 12, Large 14, E-Large 16. Patterns like new. Envelope in excellent condition. 8 pattern pieces. Beautiful long pleated wrap skirts of richly decorated silk were worn by Chinese women, perhaps as early as 200 BC, and later in the Imperial Court of the Ching Dynasty (1644-1911). Worn over loose trousers, a matching jacket or robe of silk or satin completed the traditional costume. The skirt construction, changed little through the centuries, consists of two identical sections fastened together at the waist with knotted frogs. Narrow pleats over the hips fall from a lowered waistband. Lined over-panels are wrapped over narrower under-panels in both front and back. Decorative facing piped with narrow bias tape finish the sides and hem of the over-panels. Skirt is cut low-calf length; a narrow or wide traditional waistband may be used.
