This book reflects the Guild's working methods in creating designs for stitching. Flowers and plants are painted in watercolor, often modifying colors and simplifying shapes for artistic reasons. Then the design is transferred to graph paper in several steps, from which the motifs are copied onto the material. Using the embroideries as examples, these stages are described and illustrated to show how the finished work is arrived at. Examples of other motifs, such as human figures and animals, are also given. Many designs were created especially for this book, and for these complete sewing patterns, with color keys, are provided.
