women's apron waist tie st michael 1960s retro

These women's aprons date from the early to mid 1960s, they are branded as "St Michael", this as anyone reading this listing will recall was the brand name used by Marks and Spencer until some years ago.

These aprons are the type that tie at the waist, and cover below the waist, they are essentially very similar in design however the most notable difference apart the striking colours and patterns are the style of the packets. The red coloured one features a full width patch pocket, and the yellow a side scoop one.

As can be seen by viewing the supplied photos, they are very vibrant in colour and feature very attractive patterns, the red carrying an insipid black backed floral design, and the yellow a garish scene carrying the recipe to minestrone soup depicting pictorial references of the ingredients and caricatures of cheerful chefs. They're very attractive and very much of their era.

The labels as well as carrying the "St Michael" brand name feature the washing instructions....which are stated as being "warm wash" and "hot iron"....i'm assuming that when "warm wash" is stated it refers to being washed in twin tub or perhaps hand washed. The material is stated as being cotton.

The red apron measures approx 55 cm across their width or 19 and 3/4 inches if you really would like to go back to the old days, the fabrid ties measure 47 cm .... 43 cm is the width of the yellow one and each tie measures 51 cm.

The aprons are in fact unused, and have not been washed. They were found at the back of a kitchen draw a few months ago. Careful examination shows that they are free of defects.
