A man in 18th century costume standing by a window and reading a book with more books piled up on a table at his left.

Engraving by Eugène Gervais (active 1846 - 1880). French engraver.

After Ernest Meissonier (1815 - 1891). A French painter, etcher, lithographer, draughtsman and sculptor, of military subjects, studies of people, genre, animals. Hugely fashionable in his lifetime.

Published in the Art Journal by J.S. Virtue & Co. Ltd., London.

Page size 12 7/8 inch x 9 3/8 inch

The engraving, on fairly thick paper, is in very good condition. Reverse side blank.
