Salisbury 1969, NEWBURY Bedford Bus at Salisbury station, WILTS & DORSET
Description: This is a Large 11"" inch x 8"" inch photo of a quiet winter morning scene at Salisbury bus station in 1969. The route 80 bus to Newbury takes on a passenger with arm outstretched, paying the driver, and making a total of five passengers on board in total. Across the road a man in a duffle coat leans against the wall next to the street lamp, legs crossed and smoking a cigarette, whilst a Southern National bus is parked in adjacent and obscured from view.
The bus is a fine old Wilts & Dorset 1967 Stratchans bodied Bedford VAM 14, registration plate HHR943E, fleet number 813, route 80, destination board 'Newbury' and is seen here before the subsequent fleet renumbering to 501 which followed in September 1971 - and the later merging of Wilts & Dorset with Hants & Dorset on the 1st of October 1972, with this particular bus then being branded 'Hants & Dorset'.
