Bournemouth Square 1991, Yellow Bus to Westbourne, Large Photo
Description: This is a Large 12" inch x 8" inch photo of a busy scene at the bus stop at the top of Bourne Avenue at the junction of the bottom of Commercial Road, near where it joins the bottom of Avenue Road in Bournemouth in 1991 - where a 1971 Bournemouth Yellow Bus liveried Daimler bus, registration XRU278, Fleet number 278, Destination 'Westbourne via Queens Park, Central Station, Bath Road, and Bournemouth Square' on route 25 is taking on passengers at the bus stop. The same bus stop is there today, just below the bottom of Commercial Road, in-between H. Samuel Jewelers and Boots Pharmacy, opposite the entrance to Bournemouth Gardens and next to the Taxi stand.
This lower part of Commercial road and Bourne Avenue is now part pedestrianized and and new semi-industrial type retail buildings dominate the periphery, although the classic buildings (in the far distance of the photo) around Bournemouth square such as Bristol and West House, have thankfully survived the onslaught of 'progress', even if it is as Apartment conversions.
