Revox A77 tape recorder replacement end of tape (EOT) sensor, new.

The end-of-tape sensor in most Revox recorders will fail after some years, due to the shift in the sensor's resistance due to aging - a well known and common occurrence in the electronics industry.  The original is an epoxy-sealed device making it impossible to repair.  Further, the sensor used by Revox in the original is now obsolete and very difficult to obtain.  Even if you can buy one, it's likely to be very expensive, old stock, and probably aged similarly to yours.  Revox stopped producing recorders in the mid '80s, so the incidence of this fault is high in the half-million A77's that they made.

This replacement is a precision 3-D printed part which will bolt into the transport using the orignal hole and screw, and has sufficently long leads to connect tothe existing wiring loom.  Heat-shrink tubing is included in the sale so as to protect the bare wire ends from short circuit when in place.

Installing this device will require the change of a single resistor on the main control board - this is not difficult to do but you need to be careful and competent with your soldering!  It's likely that if you are engaged at depth in repairing your A77, you won't have any difficulty with this and it will take no more than 10 minutes to enact.  Full details and diagrams of what to do will be supplied with the part, and the required resistor is also supplied.

At the risk of impugning your intelligence (sorry!), I would mention that you need to be sure of the functioning of the lamp which illuminates this sensor when no tape is present!

It might be that this same sensor will fit other Revox and Studer tape machines, but I have no knowledge of this - you should be able to tell from the picture above - message me if you need help with this.
