Old Rebated Mortice Lock 2 Lever Has 1 Working Key and Keeper (LEFT HANDED LOCK)

Here I have for sale one very, very nice hard to find STEEL AND BRASS CONSTRUCTION 1930's Victorian style 2 lever LEFT HANDED DOUBLE REBATE DOOR Vertical Mortice Lock and 1 working key which works the lock perfectly with a very nice smooth action.

This is a Left Handed REBATE DOOR vertical mortice lock - THIS LOCK IS ONLY SUITABLE FOR LEFT HANDED REBATED DOORS ONLY. - please see and study photos 7, 8 & 9 for rebated door illustrations and more details of left and right handed doors.

IMPORTANT :- Unlike the other mortice locks that are for sale in my other eBid listings, this lock is a specialist lock, so please make double sure that you (or someone you have) know's EXACTLY what they are doing and has the knowledge needed to fit this lock to your rebated doors successfully BEFORE YOU BUY IT.  

This lock is from my personal vintage lock collection and has been well looked after.    

This lock is a 1930's REBATED DOOR upright vertical mortice door lock of a very popular English Victorian design, It dates from the 1930's era and is in perfect working order complete with 1 key and Original Keeper. 

This lock is in fantastic condition with its brass work which looks really fabulous !.. There may be some minor age related marks on this item from many years of use. 

Again, This lock in very good condition for its age but being an USED, old original lock from the 1930's it may show some obvious signs of use and wear which only adds to its original character ! so please bare this in mind before you decide to buy this great quality rare lock and take time to study all the 15 photographs very carefully as they show the actual lock that you will receive and the over all condition that it is in including any marks or imperfections it may have being an old original lock that is now around 90 years old and they also show some important measurements that may be needed.

There is also an original cast brass stepped keeper plate (striking plate) and 8 brass fixing screws included with this lock. 

This lock has 2 levers plus some security warding inside the lock on both sides and is a reasonably secure lock. It is ideal mainly for internal doors where security and home insurance is not an issue, For external doors I recommend using an insurance approved 5 lever deadlock mortice lock and rebate door kit for that particular lock.

For secondary semi external REBATED doors like second porch way double doors,  hallway double doors or lobby double doors, vestibule double doors, I recommend using an Yale cylinder lock or an 3 or 5 lever deadlock mortice lock along side this lock for better security (if needed).

However if desired, this lock may be used on an external door along with an additional Yale cylinder type lock or a 5 lever mortice dead lock which is insurance approved for added security. 

Measurements for this lock are below:-

Size of lock stepped face is: 151 mm high by 29 mm wide by 4 mm thick (on the longer lock body side) and the depth of the step back is 16.5 mm on the shorter lock body side.

Size of lock body or lock case from the longer lock body side is: 97 mm long (this is excluding the 4 mm thickness of the front shiny brass stepped face plate on that side of the lock).

Size of lock body or lock case from the shorter lock body side is: 82.5 mm long (this is excluding the 16.5 mm setback of the front shiny brass stepped face plate on that side of the lock). 

Height and thickness of the lock case/lock body is: 109 mm high by 14 mm thick.

The next two measurements for the keyhole and door knob spindle hole setback are taken from the very end of the face edge of this lock and are as follows ;-

From The longer body side; The measurement from the front face of this lock to the center of the key hole is 63 mm. 

The measurement from the front face of this lock to the center of the door handle (or door knob) spindle hole is 63 mm.

From The shorter body side; The measurement from the stepped back front face of this lock to the center of the key hole is 50 mm. 

The measurement from the stepped back front face of this lock to the center of the door handle (or door knob) spindle hole is 50 mm.

The measurements of the keeper plate (striking plate) are approx 151 mm high by 34 mm wide and the thickness of the keeper plate (or striking plate) is approx 4 mm cast brass in the thick areas and 2 mm in the thinnest areas and the rear part of the keep that gets recessed is 11 mm in depth. 

The total length of the key is approx 73 mm (just over 2 and 3/4 inches long)

PLEASE STUDY ALL 15 PHOTOS as they form a very big part of the DESCRIPTION in this listing and they show any imperfections that this lock may have as well as they show some of the most relevant measurements that are needed.

I have described this item to the best of my knowledge and this lock is in perfect working order and in great used condition.
