Leatherhead 1978, Guildford Rd bus Garage, Large Photo
Description: This is a Large 11"" inch x 8"" inch photo of a typical scene at the old Leatherhead Bus Garage on Guildford Road in the summer of 1978. Clearly visible in the window is the station clock which reads 3.40pm. The bus is a ex Barton Transport (fleet 1226) London Country, 1971 Plaxton bodied AEC Reliance 6U2R coach with bus door - registration plate MRR808K, route number 418, and destination board 'Leatherhead Garage'.
The Garage was built in 1925, although major upgrade such as the second floor being added to the main building were carried out in the 1950's, with the garage eventually closing in 1999 and was demolished not long after. Today, modern buildings stand on the site, with not a trace of the old garage except for a yellow striped post that marks the old entrance on Guildford Road.
After being withdrawn from service, the bus went into preservation, but sadly it too was eventually scrapped.
