Kilmarnock 1976, Hurlford Roundabout , A1 Service Bus on A71
Description: This is a Large 11"" inch x 8"" inch photo of a period traffic scene at the A71 (Hurlford Road) Moorfield Roundabout on the outskirts of Kilmarnock in 1970. An Ardrossan based 'A1 Service', 1969 Leyland Atlantean bus, registration plate NSD211G, route 'A1', destination board 'Kilmarnock', navigates the Moorfield Roundabout from the B7064 approach, followed by a 'H. Malcome Ltd Bedford TK Lorry.
The rather quiet looking A71 Hurlford Road dual carriageway can be seen in the distance, as can the Gatehead Railway Viaduct which crosses the River Irvine on the horizon.
Bushes and small trees now obscure the view in all directions at this roundabout and several industrial buildings have sprung up in the vicinity since this photograph was taken. A Premier Inn now sits alongside the roundabout, just out of right of picture.
