Original French 23 inch x 31 inch Poster for the 1952 Jacques de Casembroot Drama JOCELYN, based on a story by Alphonse Marie Louis de Prat de Lamartine and starring Jean Desailly, Simone Valère, Jean Vilar, Jean Debucourt, Marguerite Cavadasky and Alexandre Rignault.

Played by Jean Desailly, the title character is a 16th-century divinity student who is forced to hide from the authorities. He befriends a young boy, and before long the two have sworn eternal loyalty and fidelity. It comes as quite a shock, then, when Jocelyn discovers that his faithful chum is actually a girl (Simone Valerie). Can he remain loyal to his religious vows with such a beautiful young creature in such close proximity?
Lamartine was a French writer, poet and politician who was instrumental in the foundation of the Second Republic. He was a pioneer of the French Romantic movement, and is considered one of the greatest French poets of the nineteenth century. In Jocelyn, Lamartine depicted a young priest's struggle with temptation and ultimate renunciation of forbidden love.

Poster art d’apres Raymond Gid (1905 - 2000). A French poster designer and typographer. He began to publish caricature drawings in the newspapers from his adolescence, and quickly adopted the pseudonym of Gid, a name which he will officially adopt by decree of April 4, 1959.
