Seller's Description
O. GEORGIUS III D G REX, incuse on raised rim, around laureate bust, facing right.
R. BRITANNIA, incuse on raised rim, around seated figure of Britannia, facing left; date, incuse on raised rim below.
Lovely chocolate patina; digs and scratches both sides, but a reasonable portrait; edge knocks. SPINK 2023:- £100 in VF.
These pieces were struck at Matthew Boulton's SOHO Mint in Birmingham; they came to be known as "Cartwheels" because of the large size and raised rim. Half Pence and Farthings exist, but they were not struck for circulation.
Some sellers have little or no knowledge about coins, but I have been collecting them for over 40 years, so buy with confidence from an honest seller, NOT LIARS WHO DESCRIBE COMMON PIECES AS RARE.
