Seller's Description

Dewsbury Vicarage Road 1971, Yorkshire Woollen Bus, Large Photo

Description: This is a large 11"" inch x 8"" inch colour photograph of a Yorkshire Woollen, 1950 Roe bodied Leyland PS2, registration plate HD8562, fleet number 52, route number 8, destination board 'Black Horse Inn', and seen here heading up the A638 Vicarage Road, past what is now the Job Centre Plus, and where the building works are is now the Sports Centre, in Dewsbury, West Yorkshire.
It is  near to 4pm on Monday the 15th of July 1971 and this old Leyland is laden with passengers, including school children, as it heads to its destination, the Black Horse Inn, on Edge Top road, at Overthorpe. A side banner advertisement reads 'Let's Face it - There's nothing like a Real Fire', a clue to the coal industry that thrived not far from this area in those times.

Today, Vicarage Road is a dual carriageway, and the side road in front of the bus is no longer there, long since redeveloped into the Sports Centre complex. A nice touch to this scene is the 1968 Triumph Herald bringing up the rear of the bus, complete with white vinyl covered bumpers.

An interesting glimpse into a 'home-time' moment in Dewsbury in the springtime of 71
