Seller's Description
WW1 Propaganda
"Sinking Of The Lusitania"
Medal
The item (Medal) measures approx, 5.5cm in diameter.
Approximate weight; 60.6g
This medal was issued by the British Government in 1915 as a direct (political propaganda) copy of the original designed by Goetz.
The Lusitania, a Cunard liner, was sunk by a German U-Boat on the 7th of May 1915. The original Goetz medal had the wrong date (May 5th). This allowed the UK a perfect propaganda weapon as they alleged that the Germans had planned to sink the ship on the 5th and that the sinking was deliberate and not an act of opportunity.
The item is in a good general condition, some dusting of rust to edges.
The item will be shipped with the original box fragments as shown.
Please take a look at the photos as they form part of the description.
