No Date But, Circa 1889
(Previous owners name and date on first blank endpaper).
The book was bound by the company of Charles Mudie.
Maudie was a famous bookseller, selling high quality bindings. He also ran a lending library during the Victorian period.
Maudie was so famous that he has nods and mentions in many publications of the period, including H.G. Well's "Invisible Man."
The book measures approx, 13cm by 18.8cm and contains approx 320 marble edged pages with eight full page B&W illustrations, including a frontis.
A collection of poetry and prose regarding the fairer sex.
There are contributions from many authors, such as Byron, Shakespere, Washington Irving, and Tennyson to name a few.
The text is tightly bound as one would expect from Mudie.
There is light foxing here and there, most obvious around the plates, titles and endpapers.
The pages have light age toning.
The half leather bindings are in a good general condition. Some wear at the corners and a little surface marking to the rear board, as shown.
Please take a look at the photos as they form part of the description.
