Axinite (Fe) Faceted Oval: Bright Golden Color and Flashing Inclusions; 2.96 cts

Also known as axinite(FE), this mineral has long been used as a gemstone, though it has always only been available in tiny quantities that has kept it in the realm of a collector's stone. This piece has a beautiful golden color that is brighter than the brownish shades of most axinite. It is full of feathers and veils, which reflect back intense sparkles/flashes that my camera didn't capture. The cutter claimed that this material originated from France, though I cannot confirm and have seen similar material coming out of Pakistan. This is a nice size example of a rare species with interesting features that draw your attention for closer scrutiny. If you decide to set it, please note the dimensions below, as it is rather fat for an oval (but not quite a cushion shape)..
