Very pretty gem with the desirable intense purple color. This material gets more fascinating the closer you look. Purpurite is a rare gemstone, formed from the oxidation of manganese and iron. Where found, it usually forms crusts that are too thin to cut into gems. This piece contains some chatoyant flecks, nice bits of darker purple, and some contrasting green oxides. The back is unpolished, and more green than purple. A nicely cut, less common species of gemstone to add a touch of the unusual to your design.
