There's usually some very good tutorials in the online help, plus you should be able to find tutorials for all levels on the internet. If you check the shelves of your local Borders or Waterstones, or even car boot sales, you may even find a Photoshop 7 book.

    I have a Canon AV-1
My brother still uses the old Sony 2.1MP digital camera I sold him a few years ago, as I moved on to newer kit. He's perfectly happy with it as it still takes good photos.

Just been out with the Canon today in fact, took some slides of the surrounding countryside. Such an easy camera to use

I use film sometimes and digital most of the time; all SLRs and all Nikon. Used my first SLR about 50 years ago, so that gives you an idea of my advanced years!

Used to use Photoshop professionally. From a strictly photographic point of view it's overkill, as most of its features are intended for publishing and marry in with Illustrator, etc.

Something like Photoshop Elements (now on version 6, I believe) is of far more use to amateur photographers. "Irfanview", a freebie, is great for resizing, format conversion, slide viewing, etc. Worth a look.

Also, if you want an alternative to Photoshop, try Gimp http://www.gimp.org/ this is free and seems to have everything that Photoshop has. I've only 'messed about' with it as I have a full version of Photoshop, but it seemed to have all the same functionality.

The big thing I miss when using GIMP is the Photoshop batch edit tools - from resizing to colour adjustment, just about any Photoshop action could be applied to a hundred or a thousand images with the click of a button. I know this should be possible with GIMP too but it's not nearly as easy to do, and probably requires GIMP scripting knowledge which I have yet to get to grips with.
