Default What do people here use for their photography?

I have a small array of cameras to play with, including compact film, compact digital, hybrid digital, film SLR, film TLR... all good fun to play around with and experience the use of, then when it comes to extracting photos it's either on to the computer or a trip down to the photo shop or college dark room to make prints. Lately I decided that I should probably start to use up some of my old slide film which is gradually going more and more out of date, but at least it's all pre-paid processing

I now use a Canon EOS D60 digital SLR. Had to sell all my old photographic gear to buy it... Including my much loved Canon AE1 Program....

But I wouldn't go back to a film SLR now, get superb quality pics with all the advantages of digital.

    Default Real Film

When I want the best quality I use the real deal - Film still has many advantages over digital the least of which is resolution and the contrast ratio has not been matched - - The list goes on . . . .
That's why Hollywood still shoots film and then transfers to digital for editing . .

Before I comment, 'passarts' I'm not saying your wrong, I'm just giving my opinion

If you your buying top end digital equipment I don't believe you'll be able to tell the difference with quality (this doesn't mean it's not there). Digital gives you many advantages over film, and my digital 'negatives' never got ruined in a processing lab by some chump who spilled something all over them... I know quite a few professional photographers and every single one of them now use digital equipment.

I'm no movie making expert, however, from what I can tell the reasons behind movie production are more down to personal preference than film 'quality'. If you look at the people that do know about movie making, you have Francis Ford Coppola, Peter Jackson, George Lucas, Tim Burton, Steven Soderbergh all making movies in digital, and Oliver Stone, Steven Spielberg, Martin Scorsese saying it's the work of the devil.

I guess it's exactly the same as the vinyl LP vs CD debate, and I believe that digital will win out in the end.

I use a Sony DSC-T30 digital camera for all my website pics..

It has a fabulous large viewing screen, which is just what I need

Hubby bought it for me, two Christmas's ago and its been a brilliant little, well travelled accessory.

Must admit though I do have a major problem with white backgrounds, looking greyish/yellow.. Black is fine, but I do need a lighter back on times..

I have just aquired Adobe photoshop 7 but really need an idiots guide to all the menu & uses

If you are having a problem with colour, the whites going yellow, it may be because you're shooting using incandescent light (the same cast may be there when you use black backgrounds, it's just not so apparent). If this is the case, you should be able to fix it to an extent using the white balance control on your camera.

There is an explanation of why this happens, and how to fix it, here...

If this happens when you're shooting in natural light then it's probably something else.
