I've never understood why people want fake guns, or why they are allowed. If someone points one at you it is with the intenion of at least intimidation. If your life was threatened with a gun and you were armed I doubt you would ask. "Excuse me is that a real or fake gun".

i think people think it gives them certain powers and i suppose in one way it does...like you say ure not gonna ask if its fake or not when shoved in ure face in a raid so ya have to bow down to them........sad though isnt it how the world has got to be like this......

Woah, hold up - huge assumption there.

I'm not pro-gun - far from it, and if this is another Police cock-up then I hope that someone pays for it. But it's going a bit far to blandly state that anyone carrying a 'fake gun' is out to intimidate others. When I was a kid I played 'cowboys and indians' - I had a toy gun, a cap pistol. If I did that now then the cops could shoot me for it?

    Hi,
Loads of people shoot things near where i live.We are surounded by fields and a country park.No ones got shot by armed police whilst going hunting or poaching here.
In the autumn i went to T.K.MAXX in Doncaster and there was a gang of teenagers messing around with a gun at the side of the dual carriage way.Now whether that gun was real or not it really frightened me.I was in the car with my husband and my two year old daughter. To me if the armed police had turned up it would have served the kids right. What if someone had keeled over with a heart attack through fright those teenagers would have been responsible.
The gang and gun culture in this country has gone too far and has to stop.
    Kind regards,
    Michaela

So what would you be saying if the police didn't shoot to kill and the gunman fired his weapon and killed some children?

Bear in mind that there are a whole bunch of rules governing when the police can shoot to kill and it usually means that either they, or someone else nearby, was in imminent danger from the gunman.

The law states that if you have what looks like a gun, it will be treated as being a gun until it can be proven otherwise. That also means that if you even pretend to have a weapon (like holding a banana in your pocket so it seems that you are armed) then you will be treated the same. The police will not take the chance any more.

There are plenty of rules regarding the handling and transport of weapons. This includes real guns which are held legally, "fake" guns - whether toys, airsoft, paintball or replica and all types of pellet guns. In short, you may not openly carry one in a public place. You may not transport one, which is in a condition to discharge, through a public place. You may not carry a concealed weapon - even in a secure container - which is in a condition to discharge. In some cases you cannot even carry the weapon and ammunition in the same container.

    Hi Sdk,
There is a difference between a child wearing a cowboy hat and carrying a cap gun and what i am talking about.
Until recently i worked in a large A&E Department and Thursday through til Monday morning we were protected by armed officers. That is how bad the gun culture is.
If the police are in the wrong so be it but we all moan when we think the police arent protecting us or getting criminals off the streets.
    Kind regards,
    Michaela.
