Should passengers be required to be silent to avoid distracting the driver, too?

What about music? Should manufacturers ensure that music players/radios only work when the car is stationary?

Or has your granddad been driving with a cigarette in his mouth, the radio full blast and with grandma screeching in his ear for the last fifty years with no problems?

what do you personaly think damian?
dont you think its a bit erm ott?
i mean its one of those laws that make people think the govt think they are monkeys or something lol and have to be told what to dofor their own safety

I would point out that it is only advisory in the Highway Code not law, I think the important point is being in proper control of the vehicle.

I've had a squirt of water from a bottle, but choose the moment to do it. I don't use a phone whilst driving, they are distracting, the missus gets told to button it, if traffic conditions are such that it is required. I have to agree though that excessively loud pounding music cannot aid concentration, apart from annoying everyone else as they always seem to have the windows down!

I agree we do have to be careful about erosion of civil liberties, and just start using a bit of common sense. I fear that this has arisen because of the 'claim culture' and everyone is looking to enact some legislation to cover their back, just in case.

As I said a good dose of common sense is all that is needed. I would have though a Sat Nav telling you to turn left or right would be far safer than trying to look at a map on the passenger seat. I mean you couldn't make this up !

I smoke, not when im driving tbh, partly because i dont want to compromise my ability to control the car (im blonde cant drive and smoke lol) and secondly because i dont want my car to me smelly, i only ever smoke outdoors!

i recon they should ban smoking in cars.
