    See Stupid!
At least you announced at the start that it was a stupid idea. Nice try Red, so if I visit your store and buy a watch for a fiver, can I have a tenner sent out with it in case I need another two of what I just bought - for free?

I think the ideas are great

The problem is getting people to follow through.

How many of us mean to do something, but just don't get around to it?

So the biggest problem is keeping some momentum going.

In the past I've been merrily blasting many of the free to list sites due to the overall quality of their listings. IMO Free to list usually meant uncompetitive and boring browsing for buyers.

HOWEVER - I am delighted to say I've just spent an hour or so browsing the revamped Ebid and enjoyed it. I've even placed some bids.

Given the new look of the site and a sense they are now attracting some sensible serious buyers and sellers, I think there is some real potential now.

    This has made my day!

    Hi Gothicina,

Guilty as charged. Just haven't got round to doing some of those reviews and checking out some of those sites. That's a very good list for reference you have there by the way - wish we could put it up as a sticky, but I don't know how that works.

The Ebid MySpace group is slowly growing, but it's growing. Only problem is that many of the members who've joined haven't put much in their profiles. Some profiles don't mention Ebid and some don't even say what the seller is selling! (Guess peeps just haven't got round to it yet)

If every Ebid seller on MySpace had just 50 friends - each of those 50 friends would be made aware of Ebid. But it doesn't stop there. Friends of those 50 friends would also also know about Ebid and the Ebid seller, because when you are someone's friend on MySpace, your profile also appears on your friend's profile. - which means that their friends and friends of their friends of their friends and of their friends will get to know about you as a seller and about Ebid. It can be a snowballing effect IF everyone updated their MySpace profile to include a mention of their Ebid Stores and the Ebid online group.

PLUS - every time a member joins the EBid MySpace group, the group profile gets pushed up higher in the groups category.

I really like Rednosty's idea about the £10 voucher. Many websites offer new sign-ups a discount voucher. I think Argos is one of them. But this is an idea that would require some input from G&M.

I've reviewed ebid on ciao.. updated it.. added to the squidoo list (not sure if I've done that right)... joined the myspace group and anyway, have a link to my ebid stores on my myspace page

I really have been trying over several years

Some time ago I tried to promote ebid as the place to sell things that you can't afford to list on ebay. My particular example of this is replacement china. Very sought after items can go on ebay but a tea pot lid? a single cup? These only make money in the most desirable designs. Both my ids have assorted replacement china and it does sell... slowly but it does, often to people who have only found ebid when looking for such an item. BUT..

until quite recently my ebid china listings were high up the google rankings if the manufacturer and pattern name were entered. Now they have vanished down to second and subsequent pages. I have not altered my listings so what has happened?

Google works with various algorithms that they keep changing, so people have to keep working at getting their sites ranked and kept listed in page one - it's a case of the search engines hoping we all get fed up with their constant changes and saying 'stuff it, I'm as well paying them to make sure my site gets seen!" (That's only my opinion and I refuse to pay for search engine submission.)

    Hi Madelaine,
Yes, someone else mentioned this as well - google have changed their method of listing items so that EBid items that used to appear are no longer appearing, but this doesn't seem to apply to just to Ebid, but also to E**y items.
Don't know what can be done about it though.
