Cool Scuppered by a LAN switch

Well Its the Big switch on day. And surprise surprise theres a problem..Well its been 9 years in the making so Wahts a few days? I cannot say I am surprised by Yet another delay. Hey perhaps we can get G&M working on the new NHS computer That should be ready by about 2076 And I ll be long dead by then (Probally shot by people on this site!). Well we are all excited by the new site (Some of us ARE NOT!) Do you really think a revamp of the site is going to change the amount you sell on here? I know its a step in the right direction But ADVERTISING IS the KEY to ALL sales.....You can get plenty of Free Advertising if you look in the right places. I liked the idea on another thread about Putting stupid Stuff on Here. The whole point being (I.E. Rednosty's used Underpants etcetc) Will be picked up by A) other sites and B) Evevtually on a quiet news day the TV and Papers?) Or for free ideas on advertising just Google free advertising and you'll see how IMPORTANT this is.. I ahte to harp But it really is Key to bringing in the Buyers and Whats more I m running another Threadto Survey Sellers Only re- would they pay Ebid more if they Advertise in the National Papers?

If ebid started advertising now it would be a waste of money. Purely because there are potential buyers already about who just cant find what they want due to a lack of SELLERS ie me! I always look here for what i want, can never find it and so go elsewhere. A company usually gets one chance to snag a customer... if someone saw ebids advert in a paper or whatever they would log on.. probably not find what they want and go elsewhere and that would probably be that. It would be very difficult to get that person to come back and have another look on ebid.

I agree. I know we have more sellers than buyers, but until we have a good selection of items then its not just buyers who are put off.
My sister sells on Ebay. I have tried t persuade her to put her items up on Ebid...but when she looked at the site, she couldn't find anything like the type of item she sells. ( She is selling Scouting items. Her late husband was a Scouting DC and had a huge collection)
I've tried telling her that she would be better off putting them here as she wouldn't have the competition, (or the fees) and we need to start the ball rolling etc etc...but no chance.
I try telling her I get sales, but her reply is that I sell craft stuff and that sells on Ebid...

I am just wondering how many other sellers have this mindset...and how do we get them to change it.

To me its a bit like a chicken and egg situation. We can't get buyers until we get a good selection of items on the site...we can't get sellers who think that their items are not what sells on the site...

    Absolutely Petesmovies4auction! Couldn't agree more!

You have to remember that change takes time. Listing on its own has/will take me months. I have about 5000 antique prints and maps sitting in large piles around my office. When I've finished listing them all the antique prints section will be a worthwhile destination, I hope, if you're in the market for something to frame. The choice will be greater than Ebay at least. Until the stuff is listed though I can't imagine anyone will bother!

Actually, having said that, when I think about it I have sold a fair number of prints.

I agree totally. One step at a time.. seems people on here want it to be an overnight sucess, but this is not going to happen. I was shocked when I read this site had been going 9 years I never heard a dickie bird about it unitl all the stuff kicked off over on feepay about shops. Ive been here about 6 months now, and have grown to love it Its a bit quirky and I like that Once they get this revamp done and tackle a few other outstanding issues I'm sure they will get around to advertising. But I have to say after seeing Tizbars efforts over the crimbo period even that wont improve things overnight. That must have cost them an arm and a leg and for what? A few extra listings, cos sales are not any better over there.
Its as mentioned above, we need to encourage a wide variety of people to list here. As many of the big quality shops as possible. Then we need to push it for all its worth! That means everyone who has an account making an effort to promote it and what they sell. It will all take time, effort and enthusiasm from everyone. No point sitting about bleating cos nothings happening, get off your butts and make it happen.

chicken and egg situation describes it perfectly... i will always try and support ebid but if the item i want isn't here i have to go elsewhere. The number of auctions running is constantly increasing which is good but i think a lot of people just want advertising and think all of a sudden there will be loads of sales. Advertising doesnt work that way unfortunately... plus im sure G&M want the site top notch, easy to navigate and bug free before they start really pushing it. It's probably not right me giving my thoughts when i dont sell here anymore... but wth... u got em anyway

I also think when and if ebid do run their advertising campaign it should be along the lines of attracting sellers to list their items... explaining they pay a one off fee of X amount list their items and that's it.. no more fees to pay on your sales or listings ever again! Everything they make is theres! That's without a doubt ebids big selling point. I dont think it should be aimed at buyers coming along to get great bargains because the range of items isnt good enough yet. Plus if you target sellers you are sure to attract sellers who also buy and you will probably arouse the curiosity of a few buyers as well.

I think we need a combination of both to be honest. It all comes down to getting a good variety... whether one seller opens up several different stores or we get new sellers it doesnt matter.... we just need more stuff to buy a photography shop selling light tents, bulbs, filters etc would be good...

Maybe people should be filling in the wanted items and advertising those listings as much as they advertise the wares that they sell....
