Thread: So who's been ripped off by RM already?

  1. #1

Default So who's been ripped off by RM already?

    I have!

    I posted off a PSP game today, in a jiffy bag which measured 223mm x 168mm x 22mm and weighed 110g.

By my reckoning, that's a 'Large Letter' under the new scheme, and should have cost 65p. My P&P charge was 85p.

But the a*hole at the Post Office insisted on charging me the 'Packet' rate of £1.27.

If this is how they're going about things, expect to see RM posting record profits in the next few months.

As I use jiffy bags for my items it means that even charms/pendant will be charged as a large letter as a jiffy is too small to fit through the slot for small letters, so apologies to anyone who looks and thinks that the postage is a little high on such small items but it's not really

I have exactly the same problem now. It does make people think it is a lot of money, and they tend to think that we pocket the extra postage (which some do of course, probably where the idea comes from in this age of mistrust). However, as with most subjects in these forums, nobody is forced to buy, and a quick look around will show who is really over the top and who isn't. I've seen your listings (of course ) and don't think your postage prices are anything out of the ordinary.

Having said all that, a couple of my larger items that went out recently have actually been a little cheaper than I expected. Maybe time I checked my scales

If my local PO persist in doing this, my postal charges on games will need to go up from 85p to £1.50.

I'm only a private seller, but it still won't be good for business, I'm sure.

Have you tried identical items at different post offices? If your usual PO insist that it's a packet but a different PO charges you for a large letter...

If you are certain that it should have been a large letter (and the dimensions you state would be) then I'd be inclined to test it and obtain proof from the other PO and ask your regular one why it is different.

I have just recently added 7 items to my listings......none of them weigh much more than 100g but because they will have to go out in jiffy bags I have had to charge £1.50 p& p on each and I may be selling myself short because of price of jiffy bags, but willing to take the hit at the moment.

I may do that in the future if necessary, but as the nearest other Post Office is either a long walk or a bus ride away, it's not something I can do 'at will'.

Its really worth asking the RM website for a sturdy card version of their PIP helpcard. I applied for one in advance and it's been useful already. Using the weight and size guides I weight - and size my letters and parcels at home. Some slim paperbacks in jiffy bags fitted through the 'large letter' slot and were cheaper than before. Others had to be treated as parcels and cost more.

For those who haven't got the size guides at home- Every post office will have a guide ( my local has a hard plastic one) where you can check if your letter/parcel fits through the large letter slot and fits the large letter dimentions. If they do - then they are large letters not parcels!
