I've always assumed tariffs are only for new goods. But I really don't know. And whatever the truth, I wouldn't worry about it, it's the buyer who'll have to pay the tariff.

Mobile phones? I'd be very wary of selling them, even in my own country. So many stories of scammers. Admittedly for friends I've sold very old phones for the odd tenner, they don't attract the scammers.

Can't help you with that one. Here in the USA we are ALL confused/baffled and have no idea what the hell Dumpy is doing, least of all, himself!

Some Mobiles are very collectable, a bit more than a tenner and typically of no use these days

The early Motorola TACS / AMPS flip phone

The early Sony TACS / AMPS portable

The TACS / AMPS Yuppy Phone, any make - motorola is best

And lastly, my favorite, the B&O GSM Serene, the most expensive phone available of it's day (around £900) even the dial lights up in colour and the clamshell opening and closing is motorised. Desireable then and now

    What is baffling about

“Based on the lack of respect that China has shown to the World’s Markets, I am hereby raising the Tariff charged to China by the United States of America to 125%, effective immediately,” Trump announced Wednesday on Truth Social.
“At some point, hopefully in the near future, China will realize that the days of ripping off the U.S.A., and other Countries, is no longer sustainable or acceptable,” he continued before awarding countries that have not retaliated but rather seek to negotiate with a 90-day pause and a “substantially lowered Reciprocal Tariff during this period,” effective “immediately.”

    Sounds MAGA to me.

I think the whole issue is somewhat bemusing - I wish we had someone who wanted to make us great again - all I see is a stagnating downward spiral with prices going up above inflation and the BBC publishing nonsense statements of inflation dropping - when some prices have risen 'recently' in the shops by 25% ...and more!

As for the 10% tariff 'reward' we had - appears to have become the same as that of all the other 'takers' - trumps words, so we got nowt LOL.

Finally I understand in order for us to benefit from any bonus deal with USA we have to distance ourselves from some deals 'Stalmer' was already trying to tie us to with the EU - thank God we avoided it!

I can see this was a clever Farage prior agreement with Trump - to make rejoining the EU difficult - thank goodness someones got a brain here.

As for US - they vote for who 'they' want - i see it as their choice, every American who I knew living in the UK wanted Trump and they were a pretty varied range of people.

At times he talks crap, but at times he makes sense - but just does not put it very well. As for JD 'sports' .. what a muppet

Thanks, interesting, but I doubt I was sitting on a gold mine. These were just old phones a friend cleared out of a drawer and they took quite a while to attract buyers. But even supposing someone did get a bargain, fine, if it keeps it out of landfill and buys me a beer, I'm happy. Don't have to squeeze the last ounce of profit out of every deal.

"Consider how China unleashed a global pandemic on the world, causing millions of deaths, trillions of dollars, and precious years out of all our lives; and to this day it has not been held accountable".

"China’s leaders have numerous tools at their disposal (like their “belt and road” debt trap diplomacy) to try to dominate the globe – an ambition they have had since the days of Sun Tzu or perhaps before. Yet, their most powerful of all is getting us hooked on the cheap goods they export. We’ve always known that accepting inexpensive items, often made in sweat shops, had a trade off. It might be good for the wallet in the short term, but it has been bad for our souls and our national identity"

Perhaps we should also talk about USA ripping off the world in services, creating a massive imbalance in trade.
How can we wean ourselves off making people in USA rich with the likes of Meta, Paypal, X, Alphabet?
