Just out of curiosity, does anyone know if there is a need to keep the link in regarding getting new members to register in order get buddy points now that eBid is permitting guest buyers. Not that it matters I suppose, but if templates need to be redesigned it would be a good time to cut out extraneous stuff.

You will still need your link. Although it is high time that if a buyer hits the 'Buy Now' button and they are taken to the join up page then it should auto fill the sellers referral to get the points. Personally I wouldn't have a join up link on my listings - takes the buyer away from the listing, I prefer them to join up via the 'Buy Now' button (as they are used to doing on other e-commerce websites) where there is already a psychological commitment in their mind.

Alas! I've got quite a few items that I've prepared for listing and saved the HTML code on my system so they would be ready to go. I sort of wish I became aware of the upcoming redesign of the site a tad bit sooner. Precisely how radical the changes to the site is the X factor right now.
    Well the offer remains open.

There are a few things I would like to know, but I doubt there is much point asking - better to just wait and see.

I shall also have to consider if it is worth updating my Knowledge Base and associated pages or to just close it all down.

You missed a bit Mel, 'We need to keep up with the needs of both our buyers and sellers so change is inevitable in the end.

    Many would say what buyers.

Your Knowledge Base has been a great source for many and I for one had the link as a bookmark and only you can decide if it's worth continuing Mel.

Based on what I've read in the May Newsletter, there is also going to be something of radical change to the size of photographs uploaded, if I'm reading that correctly. I'm probably behind the times, but I've always been told to keep resolution at a level that doesn't bog down those with slower internet connections. Are we assuming that those folks have upgraded by now?

One of the things that has always bugged me is having to scroll horizontally to view a picture or listing. Is it possible that the new site will somehow automatically adjust the image size to the user's device? Frankly, 1920px width is wider than any of my systems will handle. I suppose I'm a bit out of date regarding new technologies, but I can't figure out how something that wide can fit on the screen of my laptop, let alone my smartphone or tablet.

It's nothing to do with the size of the device you are viewing on but on the device's screen resolution. So if your 6 inch tablet and your 22 inch monitor both have the the same screen resolution they will display exactly the same - just that the smaller device squeezes it into a smaller space (i.e. its pixels are closer together).

It's not the size that matters but what you do with it.

That's good to know. However, I assume that it make a difference on how fast the image would load on a slower connection.

A slow connection will always take longer to transfer anything than a fast connection. From my reading it is not going to be an issue though.

The listing main image size has been 800 x 800 pixels for some time now - that is not changing. What is changing is that you will be able to upload large high resolution images to your My Gallery area (if such still exists) and, I assume by a listing option, be able to zoom in some way to show all or part of the high resolution image. eBid will no longer downsize large uploaded images. As eBid's images are now stored in the cloud they do not have to worry about them consuming server space.

The main point of the revamp is to make the site adaptive to the many devices now in use. So I guess elements will be tailored to the screen size, or not available if they make no sense on a certain screen size.

I really wouldn't worry about it. You can't alter what is going to happen so best just wait and see. Then we'll have a group moan about what we don't like.
