(General observation to nobody in particular) Crikey - stop telling the poster how expensive TV advertising is. They are saying they'd like to see ebid advertise on TV and I agree - ebid can do the maths.

here is my thinking i would not expect ebid to put all the money up because of there low cost they give us to sell here but what if every seller here that could afford one or two dollars donated to a ebid advertising fund set up in paypal as a gift so there is no deductions from the donation ebid gets 100 percent of it . maybe one of the admins could start a poll just a yes or no would you donate and see . there is nothing to lose and a lot to gain possibly
eBay manages to run major mainstream advertising campaigns and big sponsorship deals to get and keep their name in the public eye. How do they manage it and eBid can't? Oh yes, by bleeding their sellers dry in fees to pay for it.

No, you most certainly can't do the maths, none of us can - only ebid are privy to all the figures and their business strategy so only they can do it. I don't know ebid's business strategy but I will say this - the purpose of advertising is stimulate business and ultimately make more money - no very successful company exists without it - marketing is an earner not a loser if done properly and realistically - advertising means more buyers, more sellers and more website hits which means more income from seller fees and more income from all those adverts that are plastered all over the site (which I suspect are quite a large part of ebid's income at present). "Oh but it's so expensive ..." sigh.
Of course we can "do the maths".All that involves is simply working out how much it's going to cost, not whether a company can afford it!The costs of tv advertising are widely available so anyone can work out how much it's going to cost.eBid are only privy to their own figures.
Whatever the cost of advertising to any business, that business must be on a secure enough financial footing that they can afford to throw that money away for no return.
