Actually, merely canceling the transaction in the case of an unpaid item dispute could cause some legal complications. If a seller simply cancels the transaction, the seller could be opening themselves up for a breach of contract suit. Whereas, if the buyer doesn't honor their contractual agreement and pay what is owed, they are the ones that would be in breach of the contract. There needs to be some method where details of the transaction remain and show that the seller made attempts to collect the debt rather than the transaction being canceled and the records showing like the transaction never took place.
There's a big difference between a mutually agreed upon cancellation and a non-paying bidder/buyer.
