Can remember taking a girl home on bus , a good night kiss and then walking 4 miles home as the last bus had gone.
hello Pat , when we were courting , we could get the train , which stopped beyond her house , then we had to walk about a mile and a half to the house , then Dafty here had to walk 5 mile home...her dad had a car , but he said...."" if he is daft enough to come up here , he can walk home.""...it took about 4 years before I got a lift home , but that was about 6 at night....should say the train we used on a friday or saturday was the last run about midnight....did manage the odd lift in to town.....papa.
Another ancient here, and proud to admit it.
Well I'm 26 and I recall none of that, but I did hear the stories from the grandparents about how lucky we are now. Funny thing is, and call me an idiot, but I've always had a deep sense of longing for the past I never knew. Seemed so much simpler back then. I love looking at old black and white pics, when that all too familiar sense of nostalgia for those decades I never saw creeps in. Makes me a little sad. I'm aware times were hard, but I can't help crave that sense of innocence the photographs seem to depict. Ho hum.
I am an ancient too.
Anyone remember Cigarette vending machines in the street? Children could buy beer from the off license and take it home for the parents, Teachers could happily throw wooden blackboard (yes blackboards and chalk) rubbers at the pupils who were misbehaving in class and most people knew their neighbours names.
I don't know if I can be classified as ancient yet. I use to stop at the DODO Drive-In after school for a Brontoburger.

i remember when the price of a loaf went up to 3 shillings (15 new pence) and milk went up to a shilling. The cinema showed 3 programmes, a cartoon, a serial and the main film. I remember when there were only 3 flavours of crisps, and getting 20p pocket money which we had to save half of . I went to the shops for fags for my mum and there was a machine that sold them when the shop was closed. Ladies werent allowed in the pub and there was a special room called the snug that only sat 4 for them. I took my brother and sister to the cinema on a saturday when i was 9 and they were 6 and 3
