Thats true of a lot of ventures. The first thing discovered is that sales don't just happen without some work. That is true here or anywhere. I agree with Astral next time it comes up we can just resurrect one of the old threads. This is at least the 3rd one since I signed up in April.
Well...as I see this thread still running heheh...a less we are today a little closer to the second place again on ''Top List''...we are behind in about 202,614 behind second place for total listing...advertise or not....write much threads all around or not BUT list more people...Dzambo is already list 10 new more items...
Alright, I gave up reading after page 7, so sorry if the conversation switched since then, but here are some thoughts of mine on this matter:
First, all the posts I read regarding advertising were targeting buyers. Then people were complaining that there weren't enough products in enough categories to warrant that kind of advertising. Why not try to target sellers? Show them what they can save in fees compared to e***...maybe even set up a little webpage allowing users to enter in the amount they sell on eBay, and then showing how much they will save compared to the lower fees here.
If that works on pulling more products and people over here, THEN try targeting the buyers. Also, don't forget that if people from e*** came over here, and chose this as their main selling platform, chances are it would pull their good customers over here, as well. If even a couple hundred strong sellers from e*** came over here, that might be enough to pull in thousands more buyers, and the effect would more than likely snowball.
Unfortunately, you still run into the problem of KEEPING the sellers here until the buyers follow, as it would probably not be an overnight thing.
On the plus side, I just saw a post from last month that eBid have posted millions of advertisements on Facebook. Anyone have any results on how that is doing? I think that's a smart idea...targeting the social media network. Just about everyone is connected to at least one social networking site, so you can reach a wide range of people by doing this. Again, it's only been a month...it takes time to build something up. But maybe if they see positive results from this, then they will eventually see fit to widen their outreach and to continue spending on advertising campaigns. Just a thought.
