I don't know that there is a 'tradition' of who leaves feedback first - though eBay's feedback system introduced a form of brinkmanship into the system.

As long as the feedback is factual it doesn't matter who goes first.

That said, I will normally leave feedback on payment but sometimes I will forget (old age) and don't object to a nudge by the buyer going first.

Hi Mel , I normally put a note in the box asking to be told when it arrives and if it is ok...and ask them if they want to exchange feedback...I will send an email to the same effect...the reason I do not send f/b when they pay is ...if there is a problem..I would rather sort it out before I do anything else....if a buyer is happy , then that is the end of the transaction....the transaction is not just the item being paid for.....there is more to it than that.........well I think there is.....papa.

I totally agree. Transactions can go badly pear-shaped after payment.

eBid's feedback system, though, allows you to leave feedback 'in good faith'. If things go belly up after that then the feedback can be altered to reflect the new conditions.

eBay's feedback system was always bad in that it fostered mistrust between buyer and seller. Their later changes, where sellers were unable to leave negative feedback, made the whole system pointless.

Thankfully eBid did not follow eBay's model on that aspect of selling.

I toptally agree with you Astral.

Personally, on here, once payment is recieved, I leave positive feedback, - as other have said, if something then goes belly up, it can always be edited on here, and I like to think the best of people Plus, I think, especially for new buyers/ people with zero feedback, or just over from the Dark Side, it fosters a good vibe. (not that I treat anyone else differently).

The being able to edit aspect on here I think is a great idea, and will actually promote a better feedback system. And on here I am really not bothered though, who goes first, though its usually me - I like to get good feedback, hehe, so I assume that other people do too.

I leave feedback for the buyer when package is shipped. That way buyer knows item is on it's way.

Just out of interest because I am plain nosy, can sellers on Amazon leave buyers feedback.
My posts only state my own opinions, unless I've stolen them from someone else

When we sell something, we leave feedback as soon as the item is shipped. If buyers are willing to trust us with their money, I think they're entitled to feedback right away. Especially true of new members; we want to encourage them to come back and I think it sends the message that eBid is different from that other place.

I used to leave feedback first there too, but other than that detail I quite agree. I consider leaving prompt feedback for my buyer as part of my customer service.

The first thought I had about this was a new member trying to establish a little feedback. A lot of people will purchase a few small items to establish some feedback before they start selling - some sites even recommend this. IMO when the buyer has remitted payment, the seller should leave feedback upon posting of the item. Even if the buyer were to leave untruthful feedback, the seller can always defend/change feedback previously left ... so I would have already left feedback & a thank you for the purchase & payment. Just curious, why would you think your buyer would be interested in leaving a negative comment?
