So long as the percentage that has been promised to charity actually gets there verifiably, wouldn't it be permissible for a percentage of the price to stay with the seller of the item? It might encourage people to list more costly items, leading to a wider variety of goods on the block, if the seller were able to cover the cost of the item rather than letting it go for less than its worth. I'm thinking of Matt during the Australian relief effort, didn't he have tickets to a sporting event that he was willing to auction provided that he was able to recoup what he had paid for the ticket? The discussion at that time was supportive of him being able to arrange his auction that way, if I recall.
