Thread: Do you check with admin?

Hello big guy. I'm not at liberty to say fully. I was reminding people to have things cleared with ebid if in doubt. If you are using someone's promotion simply ask if they have been cleared. Mentioning them is no big deal. We all need that. UBUYWAREHOUSE is my store here. My gadget directs straight to ebid. No where else. There is a few with some "shady" business pratices. If you are not taking advantage of anyone you have nothing to fear. They even offer banners on clicksgalore for everyone to use. I probally should not even mentioned it but I would not like to see people get barred. We need all the people we can get. Hope that cleared it up abit for you.

lol I just heard a few things put it that way. Although I have been allowed a gadget directing to ebid I would still clear it with them first before publishing one.(if you build one) They have some of their own now and might put a limit on them. Who knows? Always best to play safe.

edit: Do take note you can build one and put whatever you want on it and direct it where you choose also. So long as it falls under googles rules. Anything with ebid's name you would want cleared.

I'm afraid I'm still in the dark as to what type of gadget you are talking about. Are you talking about a software program?

I have a friend that specializes in auction software used by quite a few auction houses that allows excellent control of inventory, registered bidders, hammer price, reserves, it even allows the cashier to check out a bidder within seconds of that bidders final buy. Of course, it ain't cheap. But it works great.

With regard to promoting my business, I promote all my ventures as I see fit in accordance to the ethical standards to which I subscribe. (Check my About JaBek1 Page for more info.) Just as it would be unethical for me to pass out my business card at another auction businesses auction so would it be to promote my business here eBid when I'm posting on another sites forums.

With regard to promoting my business on social network sites like Facebook or MySpace I do it as I see fit. In the process eBid and any other site I use gets promoted simply by association. It's awful hard to promote one's self without mentioning where you can be found. Don't you agree?

I've always stayed away from mutual promotion schemes where different sellers promote other sellers and vice versa. My reason is simple. I don't want to become a victim of guilt by association. I would have to know the other seller and his/her ethical practices before I'd actively promote them. Should one of those associated sellers be guilty of questionable practices buyers will remember who referred them.

Naturally, if I was just selling advertising space it wouldn't be critical since readers understand that it's a paid advertisement. But since that's not my business I don't.

That's not to say I won't personally recommend sellers that I like, but I can bad mouth a business that I feel deserves it. I'm not above slamming the poor business practices in one of my blogs. If their behavior warrants it, of course. Naturally, it's not kosher to attack your competitors. However, I've slammed KFC, Wal-Mart and others for bonehead things they've done. All my opinions, so I urge readers to make up their own minds.

Hello. Just back from making another one. I'm talking about google gadgets. Try a search engine for them. They are very popular nowadays and you can load them on your homepage if desired. ebid has some there as well you can use to promote them. Just use the search bar there for whatever name you are looking for and it will bring up a gadget. Similiar to a linking banner. Very easy to add or send to who ever you like. They are an open source directory.

I checked it was OK with Mark before I used the eBid logo & colours on my eBid blog, I gave him a link to the page, & got permission, provided I had the disclaimer on it.

He also gave me permission to sell the address labels with the eBid logo on it, (this predated Gazza's Posts)

As Gazza put the logos on the forum for people to use, the use of them, in banners, or pages linking back to eBid was implied by his post. In fact he even covered merchandise.

I will attach more later with country specific flags.

He also added logos to use as links, although they are on the old number six server so can no longer be accessed.

There are of course also the clixgalore affiliate banners, unfortunately the google ones are no more.

Google works on the basis of how many people and also the quality of links that each site has going to it throughout the internet. We already have quite a few but every single one helps. So if you post on other forums or run your own website then a link back to us using our important keyword in the anchor text would be greatly appreciated.

All 3 threads are stickies so still relevant, so I really don't see where you are trying to go with this.

Once eBid release their API, there will be many more applications available out there.

I just checked 5 minutes ago and ebid has a bunch there. Just use the search bar in google gadgets and they come up. They have most of the countries covered. The boys are happy we are promoting I'm sure. Like you stated though, for a special project it's best to run it by them and get approved before hand.

I'm not particularly concerned with google gadgets as much as I am with the OP's talk of what admin is planning. I'm trying to determine if canuckbid is spreading information on behalf of eBid administration or merely spreading rumors which may or may not be true.

Frankly, I don't see where it would be in eBid's interest either way. And surely, this type of a rumor campaign doesn't project a positive image to new or potential site members. I'm as much of a Mrs Nogrotty as the rest but when spreading rumors caution should be exercised, lest it becomes detrimental to everyone.

Lots of clever people out there but it would suck if you were barred from the site. I recently have been jumped on for pointing a few things out. Admin are smart people. You can not fool those guys.

New google gadgets built and I even have google hosting a whole page just for me! Also in main category but if you type in a select word you can find them also. "Sell online for free" has another one I built today as well.

Here's a page google is hosting for me. Can not beat that!

Appreciate the heads up, but, you really ought to give out a little more about what you have heard on the wind rather than go scaremongering.

I am finding the post a little vague, but what I am understanding is that there may be members promoting ebid in a way that management don't agree with?

So management will be suspending the accounts of those who promote ebid in these ways?

Is this what you are saying?

Do you recommend that what we all do is put all our promoting efforts on hold until we have had clarification from management on ways of promoting the site and/or our particular shops?

If that is the case thanks for letting us know

Now regarding your Google Gadgets: when I click on your link it takes me to a page with a button and a link on it.

I am reluctant to click on it until I know what the gadget does?

The button has a floatover text which reads "Preview before adding", which begs the question Preview what? and Add to what?

Could you give a little more info on the Gadget, where will the button take me to and what will I see? What will it be adding and to what?

    Thanks

I wouldn't worry too much books - I doubt very much that admin would discuss anything of that nature with anyone outside of the company - and I'm sure that if any of us that are actively promoting eBid did so in such a manner that eBid objected to, then eBid would approach us and contact us direct and set us straight on what we are doing wrong - and not discuss the matter with a third party.
