My mistake. That was an old conversion for weight and not money.

    well there is

    1p
    2p
    5p
    10p
    20p
    50p
    £1.00 = 100p
    £2.00

    they are all coins

    then there is

    £5
    £10
    £20
    £50

    they are all notes

and I dont know if there still is but there use to be a £100 in scotland, there is also a £1 scotland note.

just to confuse matters slightly there are the same coins and notes in Nortern Ireland (which is part of the UK) but their money is not generally acepted in main land UK... it is up to the shop keeper if they take them or not...

also when (in England) you go to bank either Scotish or northern ireland notes they should be banked seperatly to English notes. so much for a UNITED kingdom

£100 is still available in both England and Scotland but from what I hear you have to phone the banks up to obtain one as they don't have them in their branches.

Also Irish notes including £1 Notes are accepted in the UK as long as they are Northern Ireland notes and not southern ireland notes

Jersey and the Isle of Mann also use the same coinage as mainland UK, but are marked with Bank of Jersey and Bank of the Isle of Mann.

They can be exchanged to standard UK currency if you take them into your bank as they ahve the queens head on them.

To digress slightly - if you go to the Isle of Mann or Jersey, and you wish to send a postcard - even though they are part of the UK, you cannot use a mainland UK stamp for your postcard. It has to be mailed out using stamps bought on at Jersey or Isle of Mann

Yes Sarah the £1 notes are still valid at face value at all major banks and post offices, they are still legal tender aswell. Or you could list it and see how much it goes for

Yes, of course - they're under british sovereignty, but are separate colonies. I forgot them too - glad one of us has their thinking cap on.

    Night night - sleep well.
