• Comments: Bath is in south west England and it was from here that the Hanoverian organ playing musician, Sir William Herschel, discovered the Planet Uranus with a home-made telescope in 1781. You can learn all about this by visiting the Herschel museum on King Street at 19 New King Street. Bath is also famous for the Roman Baths where geothermally heated water bubbles up from underground. The Romans were there for a while from 60 AD. Also, it’s one of the best places in the UK to see examples of Georgian architecture – “The Royal Crescent” being one of the better known examples that makes it into TV historical dramas and movies. Lots of neat art galleries, antique and bookshops and if this is not enough for you, when not in lock down, they hold an exotic carnival.
